Grand Excursion

First, you’re off to Sunnyfield Greenhouse and Garden Center to smell the roses and to gather flowers for the planters for the front porch; there you visit with Maize the dog! Off to Country Corner Market to pick some veggies and strawberries with the kids. They jump out, grab their buckets, and off to the field they go. They run into Farmer Bruce and he shares stories about how our food is grown and the kids say,” Ohhhhhh!” You head to the hotel to catch an afternoon nap before you head out to the Henry County Fair. It is farm country, after all. Walking down the midway, the kids are eyeing the rides and the games they will play. You head into the livestock buildings and see pigs, goats, and cows, and they say, “Oh, my.” The tractor pull and truck show captures the kids’ attention; they sit in the grandstand in awe watching them storm around the track. They gobble down the Coney Dogs and funnel cakes purchased on the way to the grandstand. Soon, they are pulling at your shirttail, saying, “Grandpa, let’s go ride the rides.” You say, “I’ll take you and watch.” The moon shines brightly as you drive the Henry County back roads to the hotel; the kids are softly giggling about their fun-filled day and how great it was to spend the weekend with Grandma and Grandpa. A late night swim in the hotel pool, then as they lay their heads on the pillows, you kiss them goodnight and they say with a yawn, “Thank you for a wonderful day.”
