Thrifty and adventurous souls will cruise Highway 150 for finds along the Henry County countryside.  Treat Mom to the sights and sounds of along Hwy. 150 beginning at Route 6 in Coal Valley to Galesburg. It’s a day to shop for deals at the many antique, plant, and yard sales. Make a stop in Alpha to visit the car show and the plant sale at Gazebo Park.

Once here, you will see why shoppers and travelers from the Midwest travel the back roads to Cambridge United Methodist Church. Old fashioned country cooking served in button-popping portions and special and unique gifts.

Cambridge Fall ReviewA dazzling array of jams & jellies, pickles, fudge, mixes, mustards, and pasta.  Beautifully packed with collector jars, colorful ribbons, lids made of specially chosen fabrics, embroidered tops or crocheted skirts.  You’ll find Lime Pickles, Christmas Jam, and this year a Coconut Holiday Cake Mix. Delightful and unique gifts for any occasion.

Taste the “real” thing and take home scrumptious cinnamon rolls, fruit-filled pies, and a variety of homemade cookie and specialty bread.

Enjoy the popular treats, Red Delicious Ham Loves, Creamy Cheese Tortellini Soup, and melt in your mouth Apple Dumplings.  Lasagna for Two and Swedish Meatballs are a local favorite.  RESERVE your selections early. Stop in the church lobby, and pick them up when you are ready to leave. Bring a cooler!

Indoor Craft ShowCambridge Fall Review

Over 40 crafters and artists (carefully selected), original work only,  showcase their wares at the church hall and community center. Home decor, jewelry, and more make shopping for yourself and others has never been more comfortable.

Breakfast is served in the church. Energize your day with a country style breakfast, bountiful casserole, fruit slush cup, muffins and freshly brewed coffee served ala carte. 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Lunch on a generous portion of red delicious ham loaf, cheesy potatoes, and almond green beans. Lighter fare is available ala carte chicken salad served on rye bread or a flaky croissant or Potato soup. Save room for dessert! Choices include pumpkin pie, turtle cake, and white chocolate raspberry cheesecake, homemade of course.

Looking for home decor, candles, or something to get you in the holiday spirit?  Urban Farmhouse in Geneseo is always loaded with farmhouse style inventory, and Songbird Lane Antiques in Cambridge is a great place to find antiques and primitives.  Shop for traditional or fun & funky decor and accessories, a lot of it handmade by local artisans, at Mosaic Art Market & Studio in Kewanee, Savage Inspirations in Annawan, or My Moon Creations in Geneseo.

Visit historic Cambridge on Saturday afternoon and absorb the community kickoff to the holiday season. Bring the kids beginning at 1 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. for holiday crafts and carnival games including cooking decorating and face painting.  Take a tour of B&B Toy Museum to view toys of past and present. Visit with Santa and share Christmas wishes.  Grab some tacos at the Village Light Church office, then head out to see the lighting of the village tree and music at College Square Park.  Take a hayrack ride, visit the live Nativity scene, and get your family sleigh photo to remember the day.

On Sunday, enjoy the Lutheran BBQ luncheon and Swedish bake sale from 11:30-1:30, and enjoy the lights of the town until it’s time for the Baptist Church dinner at 5 pm followed by the Grace Notes concert at 7 pm.

Lucia Nights Celebration @ Bishop Hill National Historic Landmark

Drive the back roads to Bishop Hill for a memorial holiday experience Lucia Nights. As you enter the historic 19th Century village, you will be greeting with a candlelit glow of luminary-lined sidewalks and candles in the windows of shops, museums, and homes. A little snow doesn’t hurt the ambiance, either.

Lucia’s (young girls with candles) serve coffee and sweets in village museums and shops.  Enjoy a chili/soup supper at the Methodist Church or dine at local eateries. Perhaps do some last minute Christmas shopping? Carolers from local high schools will be strolling the village both evenings.  The event runs from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Musicians will be featured at the Steeple Building and the Dairy Building.  Storytelling at VASA Archives and stop by the Bishop Hill Colony School for an old-fashioned barn dance.
