Geneseo Music Festival is a  fun vibrant weekend in historic downtown Geneseo. Friday evening, the famous Doo-Dah Parade is the leading entry for the family weekend event. Gather in City Park to enjoy the community supper and watch the queen contest.  Saturday, run with dad in the Maple City 4, a 4K race. Roam the farmer’s market and City Park, filled with arts and crafts, antique tractors,  family activities, food, and music! Sunday dine on pancakes, peruse the arts and craft vendors while listening to melodies all day long. You are invited to stay the weekend and enjoy a friendly community with heart!

Midsommar Music Festival @ Bishop Hill

Harness nature’s magic and ensure a bountiful summer . . . join in the Midsommar Celebration, Bishop Hill!

Midsommar a lively Swedish tradition to celebrate light and warmth of the summer solstice with music and dancing. A  diverse line-up of musical performers are in store for this all-day event include Main Stage performances, a Swedish Maypole celebration, and an Old-Fashioned Barn Dance.

Main Stage performances in the village park gazebo will begin at 11:00 a.m. and end at 4 p.m.

Beginning at 4 p.m., help decorate the Maypole with flowers and greenery in Village Park. Join the Maypole procession lead by Ernie Sandquist from the park to the Bishop Hill Colony School.  Ring dance around the Maypole to the sounds of the accordion playing Swedish tunes.  Enjoy refreshments provided by the VASA Lodge.

Shake a leg at the ol’ fashion barn dance!

Stay for the evening and  dance the night away at the Colony School called by Ms. Gail Hintze.  The Rusty Pickup String Band will play the tunes, beginning at 7 pm.  Admission to the dance is $5 per person.

Hooppole Fun Day is for Everyone!

Hooppole Fun Day where every kid walks away a winner and with memories to cherish!  A vibrant kid-friendly community event!  Experience the parade of family floats, antique tractors, and bands.  Try your luck at the annual frog/toad (bring your own) jumping contest, penny scramble, diaper derby, and more!  25cent ol’ fashioned kids’ games. Fireworks at dusk.

The Levitt AMP Grant Awards is an exciting matching grant competition created in 2014 by the Levitt Foundation to bring the power of free, live music to small and mid-sized towns and cities. Each year, 15 nonprofits are awarded $25K each in matching funds to produce the Levitt AMP Music Series—an outdoor, free concert series featuring a diverse lineup of professional musicians. Galva finished fourth in the online voting to win one of these grants. We hope to make this an annual event with your support. Each concert will be held on Sundays at 5pm starting May 27th, taking a week off (Sunday 7/1) for Freedom Fest and running through August 5th. In addition to the concerts, there will be vendors, games, food, drinks and plenty of open space to set up your blankets or lawn chairs and if the spirit moves you: dance!

Three A’s –activities for all ages! Three A’s and fun are the perfect recipe for summer fun in rural America. Activities begin at 8:00 am with a 5K race winding through Woodhull and the countryside.  A family-fun run for the soon-to-be 5K runners starts at 9:30am.  The activities at the park feature water fights, a variety of games for the younger children, bingo, and, last not but least, the ALL ages (kids-19, 19-44, and 45 and up) free-throw and three-point contests. Pet the animals, get your face painted and stroll through the antique tractor show.  Enjoy a lunch of pork chops by the AlWood Lions Club, bingo in the park, and an ice cream social sponsored by the churches of Woodhull. At 4:00 serving of a BBQ Rib Dinner will begin on Division Street and family entertainment until 7 p.m.  As dusk falls, put on your dancing shoes for an old-fashioned street dance. It will be fun for all; hope to see you there.

Our heritage is for everyone! A Belgian village celebration is a recipe for family fun. An introduction to the younger generation of everything Belgian. Friday evening enjoy a community gathering of supper and stay for Little Miss Flame Pageant. As dusk falls a “Movie in the Park” ends the Friday, family fun evening.

Saturday make plans to try your hand in a Belgian game called Rolle Bolle (a combination of bowling and horseshoe). Visit “Little Belgium” and taste “hutseput” ( a dish with ham, cabbage, carrots, nd potatoes) and Belgian “goodies”.  Take part in the activities held throughout the day.  Saturday kicks off with the Forever Young Run 5K/1 Mile,  fireman’s parade, bean bag tournament,  Atkinson Graffiti car show and more! Sky divers arrive to spark the evening firework display. Dance in the streets until midnight. Join in discovering our heritage this weekend.

Ol’ Fashioned Christmas

An Ol’ Fashioned Christmas Celebration!

Hidden away and found each year is the timeless Galva Ol’ Fashioned celebration to be held Saturday, November 24.  A simple homespun artistic and joyful event.  The Galva Arts Council brings the community and its families together at the downtown Arts Council building, which will be abuzz all day.

Spend some time browsing the Festival of Wreaths and Country Christmas Craft Show, and take the kids to make an ornament to take home.  Enjoy a treat along the Chocolate Walk, but save some room!  Lunch is served from and features a fabulous baked potato bar with trimmings, dessert, and beverage.

At dusk, everyone lines the streets to enjoy the Galva Chamber of Commerce’s lighted parade. It meanders downtown Galva and residents line the street to see lighted floats as melodies fill the air.   It becomes a magical night as Wiley Park is aglow with over 10,000 cheerful Christmas Lights. Walk through the park and enjoy the lights.

Head back to the Galva Arts Council building. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the evening coffeehouse headliner begins at 7 p.m…  A festive  jump-start in store for your holiday spirit.  All musicians and storytellers are invited to join in the open-mic session beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Travel the back roads to Galva this holiday weekend. Bring a friend or two and light your Christmas spirit.

Make & Take Ornaments – Bring your little ones between 9 and 11 am for a make and take ornament project.

Santa Clause – Meet Santa in the Gingerbread House at Veterans Park from 1 to 4 pm.  Bring your camera!  While you’re at the park, take a free horse-drawn carriage ride and let the kids make a mitten craft project.

Festival of Wreaths – Stop by the Galva Arts Council between 9:30 am and 5:00 pm and see a selection of decorated Christmas wreaths. If you want to bring one of the wreaths home with you, you can purchase tickets for a chance to win it.

Lunch – $5 will get you a bowl of soup, a hot or cold drink, and a cookie.  Serving from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Country Christmas Craft Show – Browse a wonderful variety of handmade crafts in The Swamp Banquet Room from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  While you’re there, drop off a canned good for the Cub Scouts Collection effort.

Chocolate Walk – The Performing Arts Boosters will be having a Chocolate Walk from 10:00 -2:00 in the Galva Arts Center with a variety of goodies for you to take home.

Coffee House – Regional performance of  Christmas Music. Open Mic follows at 8:30 for musicians, storytellers, and other performers. “It’s free … and you get a cookie”,  John Sloan.
