Think of it: 100 miles of trail along the historic Hennepin Canal in the heart of Illinois for a flat and fast, point-to-point ultra-marathon! The inaugural race to be run along the Hennepin Canal in Northwest Illinois will travel through Whiteside, Bureau, and Henry counties. The 100-mile solo and 100-mile relay will begin in Sterling, Illinois, and end in Colona, Illinois, at Timbrook Field. The 50-mile ultra will begin in Sterling, Illinois, and end at Lock 22 outside of Mineral, Illinois. Camping is available at the 50-mile finish line, Lock 22. Transportation from the finish line to the start line for both races will be provided race morning.
The Hennepin Hundred & 50-mile race is a 2015 Trail Runner Magazine Trophy Series race. It features 100 and 50 miles solo entries and a five-person relay team entry. The surface is pressed rock, asphalt, and dirt. A 30-hour cutoff applies for the 100-mile race. The 50-mile race has a 13-hour time limit. There are aid stations every three to seven miles. Some aid stations will be manned with nutrition and drinks; others will be unmanned with water and sports drinks. There will be plenty of places along the course for crews to see your runners. A belt buckle will be given to all 100 miles finishers. Sub 24 hour finishers will get a special belt buckle. 50-mile entrants and 100-mile relay entrants will receive a finisher medal. An artist-made trophy will go to first overall male and female winners. The age group awards will be three deep, with 10-year age spans.
Start times: 100-mile Ultra Marathon 7 a.m. Saturday to Sunday, 1 p.m. and the 50-mile Ultra Marathon 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
