Visit historic Cambridge, Saturday afternoon and absorb the community kickoff to the holiday season. Bring the kids beginning at 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. for holiday crafts and games including how to decorate cookies, and making food for reindeer. A festive lighted parade is a must see, and Santa is in tow. Take a tour of B&B Toy Museum to view toys of past and present. Visit with Santa and share Christmas wishes, don’t forget to purchase a Christmas on the Square ornament to hand on your tree. Enjoy downtown holiday lights, select your Christmas tree and visit local businesses for a taste of holiday spirit. Sip hot chocolate while touring by hayrack the “Light Up” Cambridge homes. Stop in at the community hall for Trees for a Cause and view decorated trees and bid on your favorite during the silent auction.
Sunday, stock up on the Swedish Bake Sale and devour a BBQ lunch at the Cambridge Lutheran Church. Tour a select group of homes decorated for the season. Drive on over to the high school and warm up with chili and listen to the jazz band at 5 p.m.. End the evening and attend the First Baptist Church Concert. See you then.
Drive the back roads to Bishop Hill for a memorial holiday experience Lucia Nights. As you enter the historic 19th Century village, you will be greeting with a candlelit glow of luminary-lined sidewalks and candles in the windows of shops, museums, and homes. A little snow doesn’t hurt the ambiance, either.
Lucia’s (young girls with candles) serve coffee and sweets in village museums and shops. Enjoy a chili/soup supper at the Methodist Church or dine at local eateries. Perhaps do some last minute Christmas shopping? Carolers from local high schools will be strolling the village both evenings.
