Cruise Along More Fun on 81 for all to enjoy!

The communities of Lynn Center, Cambridge, and Kewanee are joining Andover on Saturday, June 3, 2017  for More Fun on 81!

Illinois Route 81 begins just one mile west of Lynn Center at the junction of US Route 150, and ends 26 miles east at Kewanee after passing through Andover and Cambridge.  It’s one of two county highways that start and stop in the same county. Start your cruise from either end and travel the Henry County back roads. Enjoy the drive!

Peruse Lynn Center’s sales,  beginning at 8am and ending at 3pm.

More Fun on 81 Andover ILThe village of Andover is the setting for family fun including games for all ages including a scavenger hunt along with an antique lawn and farm tractor show with displays.  Travel the self-guided barn quilt tour, view a model railroad display, and visit the Jenny Lind Chapel and Andover Historical Museum.  Grab a bite to eat from one of the many food vendors from which to choose.  Artisans and craft vendors will be featured throughout the grounds.  End the evening listening to musical melodies played by the Orion Community Band.  An old-fashioned community supper and ice cream social will be provided for a fee. A very special event will be part of this year’s festival –  a celebration & grave marker dedication for Andover’s founder, the Rev. Ithamar Pillsbury, on Saturday, June 3, 2 pm, at the Andover Presbyterian Cemetery.

Henry County IL Courthouse, Cambridge IL

 

Cambridge is proud to be the county seat and will host tours of the stately Second Empire three story
Henry County courthouse.  Walk the halls and view the architecture in a guided historical tour of all three floors.  You will view oak/black walnut woodwork, some of the sixteen fireplaces, and the second floor courtroom ceiling mural featuring Cambridge, Galva, Geneseo, and Kewanee.

College Square Park in the heart of Cambridge will be filled with activities throughout the day.  A must visit is the B&B National Toy Museum, open to the public from 10am to 4pm.  At dusk, settle in for a movie at College Square Park.

Kewanee Il Painting the History Kewanee offers a plethora of self-guided activities including the History in the Paint Wall Mural Tour. Brochures are available at Heartfelt or the Amtrak Station. Inside the brochure, find the hidden treasures: each mural contains at least one hidden gem painted in the mural by the artist. Geocache Kewanee is also a fun event to do with the kids! Visit for the day to dine and shop Kewanee.

Sunday, June 4 Andover Il Aisle of Flags

Lake Andover is the setting for breakfast at 7am, a Sunday community Andover and Cambridge worship service at 9am and the 10:30am salute to veterans.  Antique and farm tractor show will be open for viewing west of the park from 8am to 4pm, don’t forget the self guided barn quilt tour dawn to dusk. Cruise on over to Andover for the final day of More Fun on 81!

Cambridge Fest and Auto Show
Aug 5 @ 8:00 am – 7:00 pm

Participants and visitors will enjoy a day packed full of fun activities surrounded by vintage cars, antique tractors, crafters, and vendors next to the Historical Heritage Village.  Events include a Bags Tournament, Sweet Corn eating contest and a fire tanker spray for the children.  Everyone is invited to visit the Cambridge FFA sponsored Petting zoo.  Visit the community hall to view the model train display.  Sit and relax to music performed by Danny Blakey of Toulon or listen to the tunes of the High School band.

Demolition and Power!

Power up for the car show and demolition derby!  Antique to modern, modified to race cars and everything in between plus, motorcycles, and power operated cars, trucks are invited to partake in this annual fundraiser held at the Henry County Fairgrounds, Cambridge, IL.

View the car show lineup beginning at 11 a.m. Dress up like the 50’s they are looking to crown the Danny & Sandy of Henry County.

Stroll through vendor’s booths selling trinkets and food! Let the kid’s experience the Kids Fun Zone. Blow up obstacle course, face painting, and other fun activities.

Make sure you grab a grandstand seat early for the demolition derby! The Illinois Patriot Guard Riders will be on hand for the National Anthem ceremony.  Then it’s the youth demolition derby – in battery operated power wheels. Watch children age three to ten showing off their skill.

Around 2 p.m. watch over 75 cars battle it out dashing and darting in the Demolition Derby.  The last one running wins! All awards will be announced along with the 50/50 and raffle winners from the grandstand beginning at 3 p.m.

Family fun is in store at the Henry County Fairgrounds host to the Jackie Carey Demolition Derby and Car Show.  Hear screaming motors and metal crunching! A bags tournament will benefit Illinois Special Olympics.  Donations are $8 for Adult and $25 for a Family.
