Visit historic Cambridge, Saturday afternoon and absorb the community kickoff to the holiday season. Bring the kids beginning at 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. for holiday crafts and games including how to decorate cookies, and making food for reindeer. A festive lighted parade is a must see, and Santa is in tow. Take a tour of B&B Toy Museum to view toys of past and present. Visit with Santa and share Christmas wishes, don’t forget to purchase a Christmas on the Square ornament to hand on your tree. Enjoy downtown holiday lights, select your Christmas tree and visit local businesses for a taste of holiday spirit. Sip hot chocolate while touring by hayrack the “Light Up” Cambridge homes. Stop in at the community hall for Trees for a Cause and view decorated trees and bid on your favorite during the silent auction.
Sunday, stock up on the Swedish Bake Sale and devour a BBQ lunch at the Cambridge Lutheran Church. Tour a select group of homes decorated for the season. Drive on over to the high school and warm up with chili and listen to the jazz band at 5 p.m.. End the evening and attend the First Baptist Church Concert. See you then.
Andover’s festive Christmas Walk is for all to experience and enjoy! Begin with the tree lighting ceremony and sing along at Andover Lake Park. Warm up with kids crafts and visit with Santa Claus while sampling holiday treats. Drive the back roads to Bishop Hill for a memorial holiday experience Lucia Nights. As you enter the historic 19th Century village, you will be greeting with a candlelit glow of luminary-lined sidewalks and candles in the windows of shops, museums, and homes. A little snow doesn’t hurt the ambiance, either.
Lucia’s (young girls with candles) serve coffee and sweets in village museums and shops. Enjoy a chili/soup supper at the Methodist Church or dine at local eateries. Perhaps do some last minute Christmas shopping? Carolers from local high schools will be strolling the village both evenings.
