Santa takes the back roads
Christmas in Henry County is about getting back to your roots and sharing old-fashioned holiday cheer. It’s about finding gifts that are more personal than you’d find in a big-box store. And it’s about you and your loved ones getting together and simply having a wonderful Christmas time.

Return to simpler times
Escape the frenzy of the Christmas season, and make your way to the Julmarknad Christmas Market in Bishop Hill Dec. 1-2. Experience the sights, sounds, and aromas of Christmas past. Watch for Swedish folk characters, the “Tomten,” roaming the village. Special music, Swedish food specialties, and an abundance of handmade wares, folk art and antiques will be on hand to enjoy. You’ll also be able to select from a large array of delicious holiday cookies during our cookie walk weekend, homemade by community bakers on Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Light up Cambridge
Visit historic Cambridge on December 1st for Light Up Cambridge — Christmas on the Square and experience the community kickoff to the holiday season. Bring the kids for a 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m. holiday crafts and games session that will include cookie decorating and make and take projects. Visit Santa and take a tour of B&B Toy Museum to view toys of past and present. Enjoy downtown holiday lights, select your Christmas tree and visit local businesses for a taste of holiday spirit. Sip hot chocolate while touring by hayrack the “Light Up” Cambridge homes. Stop in at the community hall for the Festival of Wreaths, and purchase a chance to take your favorite home.

Amazing Christmas Lights
Take a magical walk around the lake at Windmont Park and be surrounded by thousands of Christmas Lights and displays.  Cross the lighted bridge and take a photo from the center.  Santa will be there to visit with the kids on Sunday, December 2nd.  The park is lit through New Year’s Day.

Wear your ugly Christmas sweater
Get ready for three full hours of cheer during the Atkinson Christmas Festival Dec. 7th starting at 5:30 pm! Santa arrives by fire truck and will hear Christmas wishes and lists at the Township Hall. Sample and vote for your favorite Five Roaster Chili Competition downtown at L&J Hometown Market.  Meander downtown and visit the local businesses, treats for all! Line up the kids for the Reindeer Fun Run downtown at State Street, Pluck a Penguin duck to win a prize, both young and old.

Magic is in the air
The Geneseo Christmas Walk Dec. 8th is where Geneseo’s Christmas spirit sparkles. Visit with Santa, enjoy holiday activities and then venture off to the Jingle Bell Obstacle Course at the Geneseo Community Center. Family-friendly activities like music and historic tours abound, and shopping and dining opportunities are abundant. More than 30 lighted floats, a treasure hunt, and many more holiday magic-making experiences await.

Run with Santa!
Put on your holiday best and dash the Geneseo community streets in the festive Geneseo Jingle 5K Run on Saturday, December 8th.  If you’ve ever wanted to run while dressed as Santa, an elf (or just as yourself) this is the run for you.

Hear the beautiful sounds of the season
The Kewanee Community Choir Concert will take place at the Kewanee Baptist Church on December 9th at 2:00 p.m.  You can also hear them on December 16th at the First Congregational Church in Galva at 5:00 p.m.
